This version of the original Munro Killer uses a less complicated tail and wing construction. The orange, black and yellow squirrel or bucktail is replaced by Grey Squirrel dyed yellow. A relatively simple fly to dress, secure the waste ends of the tail and the tag (the tag and rib are in fact the same piece of tinsel) all along the hook shank to avoid lumps. The floss is wound as a double layer from the head to the tag and return giving a fuller look to its appearance. The throat id dressed beard style with orange hen hackle fibres and fibres of Jay covert. These should extend two thirds of the body length. My preference is to have the wig just short of the tip of the tail. Grey Squirrel is relatively incompressible and hence a small drop of thin varnish applied to the waste ends after removal will help secure the wing. The size of the head will depend on the quantity of hair used in the wing and hence economy of thread wraps is a must. Create the head with flattened wraps of well waxed thread and two coats of Hard as Nails varnish.
